Concerned Black Men of Richmond Conducts 1st 2026 Session: Financial Literacy

Greetings all,

The Concerned Black Men of Richmond conducted our first activity of the 2026 session entitled “Financial Literacy.”  It was held at Franklin Military Academy on January 10^th and facilitated by Kevin Carter and Chad Holeman.  There were 15 mentees and 8 mentors at the activity.

 We started with a video informing them on various ways of allocating financial resources into needs and wants.

Next, we introduced the speaker of the day, Steve Holeman, Jr. a dedicated Assistant Finance Professor and finance professional with a passion for helping individuals and businesses make informed financial decisions. He was born and raised in Virginia. Mr. Holeman has been teaching at Virginia State University for 16 years at the Reginald F Lewis College of Business.

He teaches Principles of Finance, Principles of Investments, Financial Managerial Economics, Personal Finance Management, and Financial Accounting courses. Steve has a Bachelor of Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Business Administration from Averett University. He holds several finance certifications including Series 6 and 63. Steve’s contributions to finance education extend beyond the classroom. He has worked with several individuals and families on various personal finance topics

The youth were very engaged in the subject matter and some already started investing for their future.

We had another speaker, Brandon Goode a former youth mentee who reflected on how The Concerned Black Men of RVA impacted his development.

The Concerned Black Men of RVA work hard to provide impactful programs that give examples of options for them to incorporate into their lives!  We are looking forward to working with each of these young men and are confident that they will achieve great things in the future!

Dear Fellow Sponsors and Supporters of CBM:

We are excited to begin our new session for 2017-2018 and would like to thank each person who contributed to the success of our program.

This past summer, three of our youth, graduated from high school and elected to go on to college!  We are excited and proud of the choices they have made to pursue higher education.  

CBM actually had the privilege of mentoring two of these young men since the 5th grade and we are delighted that we were able to help stimulate them culturally, academically, and socially.

Ramone Jeffers graduated from Garner Magnet High School in Raleigh, NC. He is attending North Carolina Central University majoring in Sports Medicine.

Torian Jones graduated from Richmond Community High School. He is attending Old Dominion University majoring in English.

Timothy Banks graduated from Franklin Military Academy.  He is attending Virginia State University majoring in Mass Communication.

 

All of these young men exemplify what we are trying to accomplish with our programs.  Thank you all for your contributions through participation and or monetary donations.  We hope that The Concerned Black Men of Richmond can count on each of you for continued support.  You are providing an invaluable service to the community and the world.
